Can I Use My Own API Key (BYOK) With a Coding Agent?

Yes, you can use your own API key with a coding agent if the tool supports BYOK. BYOK means you connect a provider API key and use selected models through your own billing relationship.

In Verdent, BYOK is configured through model settings. You add an API key, choose the provider and models, save, and let Verdent validate the key. If validation succeeds, those models can appear in places such as chat model selection, preset model configuration, subagent settings, and reviewer settings.

This is useful for teams that already manage Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter access, or that want tighter cost control than bundled credits alone. BYOK is not the same as bringing an external agent runtime. Verdent calls that BYOA. BYOK brings the model key; BYOA brings a separate agent tool.
