How Do Credits Work in AI Coding Tools?

Credits in AI coding tools are usage units that represent the cost of running model-powered work. The amount consumed can depend on the model, task size, context length, tool calls, retries, and how much output the agent generates.

Credits are not the same as prompt count. A small prompt to a premium model may cost less than a huge repository task, but large context and repeated loops can add up quickly. That is why cost control depends on scoping and model routing.

Verdent uses credits as part of its pricing system and pairs them with Eco Mode and BYOK. The practical approach is to save standard credits for work that needs stronger models, use Eco Mode for lighter tasks, and use BYOK when provider billing makes sense. Before publishing exact credit amounts, check the current Verdent pricing page.
